IAPS Fettes College Qualifer’s
U13 and U11 Boys
Wednesday 7 February at Fettes College
It was a little touch and go on the morning of the Qualifiers as to whether the event would be able to take place after a the arrival of snow on the Tuesday morning followed by a hard frost on the Tuesday evening, however the Fettes ground staff worked their magic and the pitches were in great condition for an afternoon of exciting hockey. Both age groups played a round robin competition in matches lasting 8 minutes each way.
It was lovely to welcome Sedbergh Prep School to the event for the first time, and we hope that we can attract a few more teams in the future from the North of England.
The U13 section was extremely close, and it came down to the last round of matches to decide the winner. Craigclowan won 4 of their matches and drew 2, and Loretto also won 4 but had a draw and a loss; this loss against Fettes was enough to knock them in to second place, however to play all afternoon and lose only one match is impressive.
The U11 section saw Cargilfield win all their matches and they scored 28 goals during the afternoon which was more than double anyone else. They also only conceded one goal so clearly they have been working on their defence! It was looking at one point towards the end of the qualifier that the second place was going to come down to goal difference between 3 schools, however a win in the last round for Loretto was enough to see them clinch 2nd place.
Well done to all the boys who carried on playing all afternoon in extremely cold conditions and also to the staff who kept spirits high and matches on time.
