The King’s Bruton boys’ U11 West IAPS Qualifier was played in fantastic spirit all day with some excellent hockey on display. Played in lovely conditions, the morning saw the pool stages of the competition being completed. Pool A was very competitive with Hazlegrove topping the group, with Forres Sandle Manor in a close second to qualify for the quarter finals. Walhampton played some good hockey and narrowly finished 3rd in Pool A. Pool B was won by King’s Hall who were joined in the quarter finals by Castle Court who had finished just ahead of Port Regis. In Pool C, Dumpton came out on top with Monkton finishing second ahead of Warminster on goal difference. Finally, in Pool D, Taunton Prep won their pool having won each of their matches with Sherborne Prep finishing second with two wins.

The afternoon saw the top 8 teams contest the cup competition whilst the bottom 7 fought it out in the plate competition. There were lots of very closely fought matches in both the Cup and Plate with a number being settled by penalty shuffles. However, in the Cup it was Forres Sandle Manor who went on to win the competition, beating Dumpton in the final and it was Monkton Prep who secured the final National qualifying place with a win over Castle Court. Equally, the Plate saw some very entertaining matches being played, with Walhampton claiming the title with victory over Sandroyd. Port Regis won the bronze medal.

A huge thank you must go to all of the parents and prep school staff for supporting the event, the players for playing their hearts out and for all the staff at King’s Bruton who helped to make the day such a success. Best of luck to Forres Sandle Manor, Dumpton and Monkton at the National Finals.
