Gabriel Jacks, Alex Willcock and Charlie Walker-Smith have been selected for the Prep Schools’ Lions District squad to compete in the Gothia World Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden next July. The tournament attracts over 1700 teams from 80 different countries and the boys will gain valuable experience playing against nations from around the world. Extra congratulations goes to Charlie, who has also been selected for the Prep Schools’ under 11A squad, which means that he will get the chance to play against professional academy teams in the run up to the tournament.
All three boys are part of Chinthurst’s under 11 football team which defeated a strong field of schools to reach the finals of the Surrey Prep Schools Cup competition in November.
Head of Sport, Simon Mussellwhite, who is also a coach for the Gothia World Cup, says “The boys have been fantastic players all season. They have improved with every game and their skill and team work is an absolute pleasure to see. To be selected for the Gothia World Cup is wonderful recognition of their abilities.”
Headteacher, Cathy Trundle says, “It has been an exciting football season at Chinthurst and the boys resilience and determination has been justly rewarded by their selection for such a prestigious tournament. I am immensely proud of them”.
